Self-promotional work for pharmaceutical clients of a visual pun that gut flora might be blossoming actual flowers composed of bacteria. The gastrointestinal microbiota is fertilized by the primordial environment of churning gastric juices and springs forth a blossom from the microvilli found in the lining of the small intestine. The flower has petals of Bacteroidetes, Bifidobacteriam, and Enterococcus faecalis, pistils of Lactobacillus and stamens of Eubacterium perched on stalks of Escherichia coli. The flower itself emerges on stalks of Clostridium difficile and sporulating Bacillus cereus.
